A boil-water notice has been issued for 1,647 customers on the Portlaw Public Water Supply in Co Waterford, Uisce Éireann announced on Friday 23 October.
The utility’s current Portlaw notice says increased turbidity in the raw water affected treatment at the local plant. It says the precaution was introduced after consultation with the HSE and remains in force until further notice.
Affected customers must boil water before using it for drinking, food preparation or brushing teeth. The notice also covers drinks made with water, ice and foods that will be eaten without cooking, such as salads.
Check the supply serving your address
The notice applies to Portlaw and surrounding areas served by this supply. Its affected-area map and the utility’s water-quality search can help customers check their address; a town name alone should not be used to decide whether a particular property is included.
Uisce Éireann’s 24-hour customer-care service is available on 1800 278 278 for questions about the affected area or the notice.
What the notice requires
The utility’s boil-water guidance says to bring water to a vigorous boil for one minute and let it cool before use. Take care handling hot water because of the risk of burns and scalds. A domestic filter does not replace boiling.
The Portlaw notice says tap water can still be used for washing, bathing and flushing toilets, with care to prevent children swallowing bath water.
No lifting time has been announced. Check the current notice before changing these precautions; the restriction ends when the utility confirms it has been lifted.
