A clear view of your data.
How The Press uses information when you read, save stories or join the conversation.
Who operates this site
The Press is published by Harvey MacGeoghagan. Privacy enquiries can be sent to info@thepress.ie.
Reading & view counts
We store aggregate counts by page and day, not a list of identifiable reading histories. Your browser limits repeat view submissions within a tab session. Short-lived, hashed network identifiers are used to limit abusive API requests; raw IP addresses are not saved to our application database. Hosting infrastructure may process network data to provide and secure the service.
Preferences & saved stories
Your topics, local area and saved story identifiers are stored in your browser’s local storage. They are not uploaded to an account. Clear your browser’s site data to remove them.
Comments & polls
We retain the name and comment text you submit, the article identifier, submission date and moderation status. Approved comments appear publicly. Avoid sharing private or sensitive information. A necessary, signed browser cookie records an anonymous poll identifier for up to one year to discourage repeat voting. It is not used for advertising.
Editor access
An essential HttpOnly cookie keeps an authenticated editor signed in for up to eight hours. Readers do not receive this cookie unless they sign in to the editor dashboard.
Third-party resources
The launch photographs and fonts are served directly by The Press. Links to external sources take you to websites with their own privacy policies. Contributors may use externally hosted images in future articles; loading those images can send your network information to the provider.
Retention & your choices
View aggregates are retained for 90 days. Abuse prevention records expire automatically. Comments are retained while relevant to the associated article; request removal through the publisher and include the article URL and your submitted name. Poll vote identifiers are retained for the life of the poll. We do not sell reader data.
Future advertising
No advertising trackers are included in this build. If analytics or advertising services requiring consent are added later, this notice and the consent controls must be updated before those services run.
