Passengers travelling between Galway and Dublin on Saturday evening, 24 October, will have to change between trains and buses because of engineering works between Athlone and Ballinasloe.
The disruption was highlighted in Midlands 103’s report on Friday. The detailed Iarnród Éireann engineering notice, checked on 23 October, sets out the individual services affected.
Westbound from Heuston
The 17:31, 18:30, 19:35 and 20:30 Heuston–Galway trains will terminate at Athlone. Buses will take passengers to Ballinasloe, where onward trains for Galway are listed at 19:47, 20:38, 21:42 and 22:41 respectively.
Eastbound from Galway
The 17:20, 19:25 and 20:50 Galway–Heuston services will run to Ballinasloe, followed by buses to Athlone. The connecting trains from Athlone to Heuston are scheduled for 19:17, 21:10 and 22:20 respectively.
The 18:18 Galway–Athlone service also switches to a bus at Ballinasloe. Separately, the operator lists an altered path for the 15:05 Galway–Heuston train.
Check the complete journey
These are planned works, with the bus section between the two Midlands stations. Travellers should check their particular departure in the operator’s journey planner rather than assume every train has the same arrangement. All times above are local Irish times.
