Met Éireann issued fresh Orange warnings on Friday 23 October for Storm Boelo: damaging wind is forecast for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, with an Orange rain alert for Kerry.

The alerts concern Saturday and Sunday, rather than an Orange warning already operating on Friday. The wind notice was updated at 10.25am on Friday; its county list includes Galway.

When the Orange warnings apply

Met Éireann's published warning details give these local times:

Kerry rain: 7am–2pm on Saturday 24 October.

Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo wind: 2pm on Saturday 24 October–9am on Sunday 25 October.

The forecaster identifies risks including flooding, transport disruption and power outages. These are forecast impacts, not reports that those incidents have already occurred.

Yellow alerts start earlier

A Yellow rain warning covers Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo and Sligo from 4am–3pm on Saturday.

Yellow wind warnings begin at 1pm on Saturday. For Connacht, Clare, Kerry and Limerick, that alert ends at noon on Sunday; Donegal's runs until 3pm on Sunday. The earlier Yellow start matters for journeys made before the Orange wind period.

What the forecast means for local plans

The national forecast issued at 8am on Friday expects rain to spread from the west overnight, becoming widespread by Saturday morning. It forecasts heavier rain in the west and southwest, followed by blustery showers as winds strengthen near western and northwestern coasts.

That sequence makes both the journey out and the return relevant for Saturday plans: an afternoon departure can fall within a different warning period from an early-morning trip. Check the current county warning and the relevant operator or organiser before setting off; a forecast of disruption is not confirmation that a particular service or event has been cancelled.

Met Éireann's explanation of warning levels describes Orange conditions as dangerous and potentially threatening to life and property. It advises people to reconsider activities and delay or cancel as appropriate to their circumstances. Yellow can still mean localised danger, and conditions can differ within the same warning area.

This report reflects the official notices checked on Friday morning. All times are local Irish time; warning areas and timings can change as forecasts develop.
