Shamrock Rovers have retained the League of Ireland men’s Premier Division title after beating Sligo Rovers 4–0 at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, 23 October. Bohemians’ defeat by Shelbourne meant the championship was settled with a round to spare.
The league’s official match record confirms the four-goal home win and a 2–0 half-time lead. Adam Brennan scored twice before the interval, with Aaron Greene and Dylan Watts adding second-half goals, according to the Irish Examiner’s report from Tallaght.
Why the title was settled on Friday
The league’s pre-match explanation, published on 22 October, put Rovers on 65 points and Bohemians on 62. It set out the clinching combination: a Rovers win and anything short of a Bohemians victory.
Those results leave Rovers on 68 points and Bohs on 62. With one match remaining, three more points could not close that six-point gap. The title therefore no longer depends on the final fixtures or a goal-difference comparison.
The Examiner records Stephen Bradley’s side winning a sixth championship in seven seasons. For the Tallaght club, the decisive result came in their final home league game of the campaign.
