Offaly community organisations have until 11.55pm on Wednesday 4 November to apply to the council’s 2026 Local Property Tax Community Capital Projects Scheme. The notice published by Offaly Sports Partnership on 9 October describes a funding round of up to €100,000, for capital projects worth at least €500,000. [1]
Those two amounts need to stay separate. The first describes the money available in the round; the second is the minimum total value of an eligible project. The announcement does not promise €100,000 to every applicant.
Check the organisation before the proposal
The council’s application page lists eligible not-for-profit organisations operating in Offaly, including community and sporting groups, cultural and heritage organisations, and not-for-profit social enterprises. Applicants must belong to the Offaly Public Participation Network, have operated for at least two years and demonstrate suitable governance and financial controls. [2]
A committee can make a short eligibility record before spending time on a long proposal: the group’s PPN membership, when it began operating, and who holds the governance and financial records. If any point is uncertain, resolve it before treating an application as ready.
Separate the project cost from the requested contribution
The application page requires a capital project, a funding plan, community benefit and delivery within the scheme’s timelines. It also directs applicants to meet the Scheme Guidelines. [2]
For planning purposes, put the total project cost, the contribution requested from this scheme and other funding on separate lines. Mark which other contributions are confirmed and which are still being sought. This is a useful way to expose a gap; it is not an assurance that the council will approve a particular funding mix.
Alongside the numbers, describe who would use the completed facility and what would improve for them. A statement of intended benefit is clearer when tied to an actual use, rather than a list of general ambitions.
Leave room to resolve missing details
The Sports Partnership notice links to the online application, guidelines and assessment criteria, and says late submissions will not be accepted. Queries can go to the council’s Community and Culture Section at community@offalycoco.ie or 057 93 46800. [1]
Before submitting, read the full current guidelines and confirm any unclear requirements with the council. Keep the application copy and submission confirmation with the committee’s project record. An unanswered question about costs or delivery is easier to address before the deadline than after an incomplete proposal has been sent.
