Galway City Council announced on Thursday, 22 October that public consultation on its Murrough coastal neighbourhood vision will open on Friday, 23 October.

The council’s announcement describes a non-statutory exercise covering 34 hectares in the east of Galway city, with potential for up to 2,500 homes and a new railway station. These are proposals in a draft vision; the announcement does not give a construction start date.

When residents can respond

The deadline is **5pm on Monday, 23 November**. The council directs online submissions to its consultation portal, or accepts post addressed to the Senior Planner, Planning Department, City Hall, College Road, Galway, H91 X4K8.

At this evening’s check, the portal’s browse page did not yet list an open or upcoming Murrough consultation. The council says the exercise opens tomorrow; readers should check for the named consultation before submitting online.

Meet the design team

A drop-in event is scheduled for **Thursday, 5 November**, in the Café Foyer at ATU, Old Dublin Road, Galway, H91 T8NW. Sessions run from **3.30pm–5pm** and **6.30pm–8pm**.

Alongside housing and rail, the vision includes coastal flood protection, walking and cycling links, public green space and community facilities. Residents can use the consultation to ask how these elements would fit together, including access to the coast and connections to existing neighbourhoods.

All dates and session times above are Irish local time. The council announcement is dated 22 October; it displays no publication time.
