The Foyle Bridge in Derry is closed in both directions because of strong winds, according to TrafficWatchNI’s Saturday afternoon notice on 24 October.

The official traffic bulletin’s 3.54pm update advises road users to use a diversion. The notice does not give a reopening time or specify exactly when the closure began.

Check the route before setting out

The closure affects both directions, rather than a single lane or one direction of travel. Allow for a changed journey and follow the current diversion signs. The bulletin does not name a particular alternative crossing, so check its latest information before choosing a route.

This is a reported closure, separate from the wider forecast warnings. It does not establish that every nearby road or bridge is closed, or that any particular bus service has been cancelled. Passengers should check directly with their operator.

Wind warnings continue overnight

The Met Office’s Northern Ireland warning covers Antrim and Derry at Amber level from 9pm Saturday to 10am Sunday. The issuing service lists Derry as County Londonderry. A Yellow wind warning covering all six Northern Ireland counties runs from 10am Saturday until noon Sunday.

The warning end time is not a forecast reopening time for the bridge. Traffic restrictions may change separately; consult the live traffic notice before travelling. Times here are local Irish time, including Sunday’s clock change.
