National Broadband Ireland has announced today, Friday, 23 October, that the main infrastructure build for the National Broadband Plan in County Cavan is complete. The announcement covers roughly 17,000 premises in the State intervention area, rather than every property in the county.
In its Cavan completion announcement, NBI puts Government investment at €65 million and says almost 6,250 premises are already connected. Northern Sound reported the milestone this afternoon.
A completed build is different from an active connection
Those rounded figures put existing connections at about 37% of the intervention-area total—an approximate calculation by The Press, not a measure of every Cavan household’s broadband use.
The distinction matters for residents considering a switch: the construction milestone does not automatically activate a service at an individual home, farm or business.
NBI operates a wholesale network. Customers order service through a retail broadband provider, and should confirm availability for their own premises through NBI’s official coverage map. That address-level result is more useful for an individual connection decision than a county-wide completion headline.
