Irish shoppers who bought a universal charger on AliExpress are being urged to check the model against a new recall notice. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission’s notice, published on 14 October 2026, identifies an electric-shock risk because the power-cord plug is not earthed. [1]

The charger is identified as JCY-05100, with AliExpress product ID 1005006975464963. The notice reports approximately five affected products sold through the platform to consumers in the Republic of Ireland. Those identifiers are more useful than a broad description such as “universal charger”, which can cover many different products. [1]

Match the product before drawing conclusions

Check the model information and the original order record against the official notice linked below. A product’s colour or general shape is not enough to establish that it is—or is not—the recalled item. If the charger was bought as a gift or has moved between households, share the notice and the order details with its current owner.

Do not use a charger to test whether a reported electrical defect is present. A recall check is a comparison with the published product information, not a home inspection of its internal wiring.

The action in this notice

The CCPC tells affected consumers to stop using the product immediately and arrange sustainable disposal under local waste-electrical-equipment guidance. It says shoppers can contact AliExpress through their platform account to ask whether remedies are available. That wording should not be turned into a promise of an automatic refund. [1]

For a query, keep the order number, seller details and a record of the product identification together. A short message linking the precise official notice will be clearer than a complaint referring only to “a dangerous charger”. Do not continue using it while waiting for an answer.

Why the official page matters

The CCPC’s general guidance advises readers to inspect recall identifiers carefully, including model and batch numbers, and follow each notice’s instructions. Some recalls cover a specific batch or country rather than every item sold under a broad product name. [2]

Its guidance also explains that consumers can report unsafe products to the commission, including concerns about dangerous products still being offered for sale. The regulator maintains Ireland’s input to the EU Safety Gate system and a public recall database. [2]

The charger notice also reminds buyers that electrical chargers sold to Irish consumers must be compatible with a standard three-pin socket, subject to its stated exception for compliant shaving-device supply arrangements. Do not interpret that as a repair instruction for this recalled product. [1]

This alert concerns the product identified above. It does not establish that all chargers on AliExpress are affected. Use the live CCPC notice for the current identification details and action instructions.
